My name is Leana Burke. I am originally from a small town called Pilot Point where everyone knew me as “Irene”. I was born and raised there and never in a thousand years did I think I’d end up on the complete other opposite side of the state. I grew up on a ranch just outside of Valley View between that and Tioga, where I learned & grew into the person I am today.
I met my husband in college through a few friends; Jordan, Kaitlin, & Brandon. Two were on the tennis team at NCTC and Brandon was on the baseball team, and I just had to tell them that I was in the market to start dating. Which led them to introduce Matthew to me, as soon as I met him I knew I had to get to know him. We didn’t have a “love at first sight” moment but I knew a few months later that he was the one for me! We were inseparable through college, going on countless dates, hanging out at his dorm room, and of course, me supporting him at every baseball game. Then May came around and we found out we were pregnant; it had a rippling effect in my personal life. Which ended in me moving across the state to good ‘ole Spring, Texas. If you’ve ever been in Sanger, Texas, stop by Babe’s Chicken Diner… There is a little sign in the corner by the restroom that says “Life is too short to live in Houston”. Let me tell you how right that sign is, nothing prepared me for this city. Hot HOT summers, not cold winters, too much traffic, not enough southern hospitality, and it just stinks. But I’ve grown to love this area. You would think a big city meant you didn’t know anyone, within a few years, most of Matt’s high school friends had become mine.
Our son was born February 13th, 2013 at 10:35 a.m. It was the best labor & delivery, I can’t even describe the feeling I got pulling my child onto my chest and just looking at what we had created. Those days, weeks, months, and now 4 years later, flew by as if we had just blinked. From sitting up, to crawling, to walking and running, Blaze Hunter has had us on toes every step of the way. From falling onto a hard wood floor at a few weeks old, to 4 black eyes, countless busted lips, and a set of stitches; he is all boy and I was unprepared. He is our whole world and the light of our lives. This road has not been easy but being with him has sure made it seem that way.
We met November 14th, 2011, started dating November 29th, 2011, had our son on February 13th, 2013 and FINALLY got married on September 4th, 2015. To say this road hasn’t been a blast would be a complete lie. My husband makes my whole day when I come home to his smile and seeing our child in his disaster of a room. I wouldn’t trade this life for anything. It was the life God blessed me with and it’s the life that has continued to bless me in more ways than one.
